5 Semester Modules Connected to Real Industries
Each module integrates biology and chemistry through the lens of bioprocessing—the actual science behind how products are made, tested, and brought to market.
Introduction to how biology and chemistry function together in real-world systems. Students learn scientific method fundamentals, experimental design, variables and controls, measurement precision, data recording standards, and evidence-based reasoning. This module establishes the professional lab habits that carry through the entire program.
Explores how treatments are developed, formulated, and tested. Topics include solution chemistry, concentration and dilution calculations, mixture stability, pH and its biological effects, active ingredient delivery systems, and how the body responds to chemical compounds. Students conduct formulation labs and stability testing protocols.
Examines chemical changes in living systems and their environmental impact. Covers biodegradation, chemical cycling, pollution and remediation, sustainability metrics, resource tradeoffs, and real-world case studies in environmental bioprocessing. Students analyze data sets and propose evidence-based solutions.
Connects formulation chemistry to skin and hair biology. Students learn emulsion science, pH optimization, viscosity measurement, ingredient interactions, preservation systems, and quality control testing. Lab practicals include creating and testing stable formulations using industry-standard methods.
Investigates how biological materials become energy solutions. Topics include fermentation science, feedstock analysis, conversion efficiency, energy yield calculations, sustainability comparisons, and lifecycle assessment. Students design and present evidence-based arguments for biofuel applications.
